Friday 30th June
At the Cause
7.30 pm (Bar opens 7pm)
“Day never ceased to impress…like a man possessed at times, effortlessly switching between characters…for me, the best original play I have seen.” ★★★★★ Theatre Bath
With an Ocarina, a Ukulele and a thirst for revenge, Lecoq-trained Edward Day battles through 4 decades of videogame nostalgia in a quest to kill his uncle and win at life.
Super Hamlet 64: Parody DLC is Day’s homage to the art of the videogames he loves and the humanity and beauty of Shakespeare’s verse. He’s taken over 100 videogame quotes, visual references and pieces of music and woven them into the story of Hamlet, dying again and again as he tries to kill his uncle. He’s turned Ophelia into a kickass gamer geek with a penchant for samouri swords, the famous graveyard scene into philosophical zombie shootout, and the final fight with Laertes into an epic boss battle with a giant mechanical beast, spewing clouds of noxious gas.

The venue is privately funded and its aim is to support Music, Art and community activities, at the same time sustaining and conserving the historic buildings for the enjoyment of future generations.
The Cause has a range of facilities, including a kitchen and fully licensed bar (available at concerts and some events) and is wheelchair accessible with a toilet for disabled. Our versatile spaces provide a platform for many different types of event, the details of which all exist on our Venue page.
Rag and Bone Arts
Come along and join Rag and Bone Arts – a Chippenham based Community Interest Company who deliver Saturday Arts workshops for aged 4-16’s and run Adult workshops too!
Rag and Bone started as a Theatre Company in 2011, and has evolved to include Dance and Art workshops. Their ethos is inclusive and creative. The ideas of the young people are used to create work for the community, both inside local venues and for outdoor performance. To date, they have created around 12 theatre performances – written and devised by the company, 6 street performances, performed in Flashmob’s, taken part in a Museums Alive performance and performed a potted Romeo and Juliet at the Trowbridge Diversity Festival.
They are in their 6th year, and are dedicated to making up performance work with the young people at the heart of what they do. They will get involved in any local event that they can, and love to perform outside as well as inside theatre venues. The ages guides and are flexible, dependent on experience and need. Disability isn’t a disadvantage. Everyone is welcome to join us, as long as we are able to accommodate you, and you are happy with us. Get in touch!
